UAB School of Engineering students achieve third place in the Huawei ICT Competition 2025-2026 Global Final

The ERROR404 team, formed by students of the UAB School of Engineering, placed third at the Huawei ICT Competition 2025-2026 Global Final, one of the world's most important technological competitions of the ICT sector. The competition was held from 2 to 6 June in Shenzhen, China. This year's competition included 220,000 students from over 2,000 universities located in more than 80 countries and regions.

The students reached the final phase of the competition thanks to obtaining first place in the European phase, overcoming the three phases of the competition (national, regional and global), and combining individual and team tests. A total of 39 finalist universities participated in the global phase and, adding up all the categories (Computing, Cloud and Network), representatives from nearly one hundred universities from Asia, Europe, America and Africa participated.

During the eight hours of competition, the students faced different technical challenges linked to technologies from the Huawei ecosystem. They also configured and optimised in an efficient, secure and coordinated manner, infrastructures based on technologies such as openEuler, openGauss and Kunpeng, demonstrating advanced skills in systems administration, databases, and computer architecture.

The UAB's winning team is made up of Josep Bonet, in his fourth year of the degree in Artificial Intelligence; Ayman Bouazza, in his third year of the degree in Computer Engineering; and Wenqiang Ruan, in his first year of the degree in Computer Engineering. Daniel Franco, the team’s coach and lecturer in the UAB Department of Computer Architecture and Operating Systems, acknowledged the high level of technical demand and pressure the students faced while identifying issues, adjusting configurations, troubleshooting, and verifying that their solutions worked correctly in real time.

This success places the UAB School of Engineering in a prominent position on the international scene of technological training and among the top universities in the world. It also showcases the level of excellence of Catalan engineering on a global scale and reinforces the projection of the university school's talent in high-level competitions.
