SERGI AGUILAR: TOOL, GAME, JOURNEY

The students of the Master’s Degree in Analysis and Management of Artistic Heritage at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona present Tool, Game, Journey, a monographic exhibition dedicated to the artist Sergi Aguilar (Barcelona, 1946). The exhibition offers an approach to the creative universe of one of the most prominent sculptors of the second half of the 20th century in Spain, through a selection of works that, despite their apparent diversity, share a common perspective on the world.

Known for his connection to minimalism and geometric abstraction, Aguilar develops a body of work that transcends essential forms to incorporate a profound symbolic dimension. Everyday objects, trajectories, games, shadows and working processes become tools for thinking, inhabiting and understanding reality. The exhibition emphasizes this singular way of relating to the environment, where aesthetic experience becomes a form of knowledge.

Tool, Game, Journey proposes a route structured around five areas: Object, Game, Trajectory, Shadow and To G. Anselmo. The proposal begins with an intervention in the exhibition space that allows visitors to view the exhibition in its entirety through a peephole, simulating what would be the artist’s studio and mind. Once the viewer enters Sergi Aguilar’s world, they encounter his most representative works: 58 falques, 21 peces, Trueque, Clock, Pacific, Lights, Clear Nocturne, Shadow and, the crown jewel, the majestic To G. Anselmo. This curatorial proposal aims for the audience to immerse themselves in Aguilar’s unique way of playing and making the world his own.
