Theatre as a space for memories: the 50 and over workshop presents Delicades

On Thursday 18 June at 7:30 p.m., the UAB Theatre Hall will premiere the play Delicades, by Alfredo Sanzol, under the direction of Marta Sorribas and performed by members of the UAB's 50 and Over Theatre Workshop. The performance will mark the end of another year of artistic and cultural activities held at University.

The 50 and Over Theatre Workshop is a consolidated part of the activities and courses offered by Cultura UAB. With more than ten years of uninterrupted history, this space has become a meeting point for people interested in the performing arts, promoting creativity, artistic expression and cultural participation.

Premiered in 2010 by the T de Teatre company, Delicades marked the beginning of a long and fruitful collaboration between the Catalan theatre ensemble and the Navarrese playwright Alfredo Sanzol, current director of the Centro Dramático Nacional. The author has developed a career marked by sensitivity towards female characters, a characteristic especially present in this play.

In Delicades, Sanzol pays homage to an entire generation of women, that of his aunts and grandmothers, who lived through the war and the post-war period. Strong and courageous women who had to face numerous difficulties without ever losing their humanity or their capacity to care. Through a set of short stories, memories and anecdotes, the play builds a mosaic full of subtle humour, tenderness and emotion that connects with the collective memory of several generations.

The performance offers a delicate look at the daily experiences of these women, turning seemingly simple fragments of life into universal stories full of meaning. A play that invites the audience to remember, be moved and recognise themselves in the stories that have contributed to creating our present.

Admission to the performance is free and open to the entire university community and general public.
